Steve Brimm Photography was a key artistic collaborator and contributor to the project.
The Wolves & Moose of Isle Royale is a long term project that has provided significant inspiration. The scientists involved in the project and the artists and philosophers they partner with add a wonderful richness to the Keweenaw.

50 Lakes One Island

In 2011, Chicago filmmaker George Desort spent eighty nights on Isle Royale, a wilderness island on Lake Superior. Traveling alone with his camera equipment and as much food as he could fit into his kayak, Desort explored the rugged terrain of the island, filming himself each difficult step of the way. Desort’s breathtaking footage paired with his personal, unvarnished story-telling result in a film that will spur viewers to visit the outdoors as soon as possible.

Fortunate Wilderness

A Film by George Desort

Anchored in the northwest depths of Lake Superior, Isle Royale is one of America’s last remaining wild places. Fifty-six miles of inhospitable waters isolate the island from the Michigan mainland. Explore this wilderness island with wolf biologists Rolf Peterson and John Vucetich, as they attempt to make sense of the delicate balance between wolf, moose and climate.
